Happy Memorial Day!

May 25, 2012

Greetings from Room 116!

Thank you to all of our hardy volunteers who braved the elements to accompany us on Tuesday’s lighthouse field trip! We certainly got to see why lighthouses were so important to 19th century sailors.

Here’s a short summary of the rest of our week:

Math: We explored the concepts of volume, capacity, and weight.

ELA: We read in our fantasy groups and finished many writing projects.

SS: We learned more about the structure and function of lighthouses.

Science: We continued our investigation of simple machines.

Other:  We enhanced our MA lighthouses brochures with more facts and photos.

We ended our week with an amazing All-School Memorial Day Celebration featuring the Wixon Marching Band. What a phenomenal music tradition we have here at DY!!

Best wishes to all for a memorable weekend with family and friends. Please remember that there is no school on Monday in honor of Memorial Day.

Sincerely,

Ms. Feeney

Hooray! We successfully completed the Grade 3 Math MCAS. I am so proud of the effort put forth by all. This week, I also had the chance to conduct DRA-2 reading assessments. Below is a brief review of the rest of our week:

Math: We continued to explore geometry concepts.

ELA: We read in our fantasy groups and worked on a variety of writing projects.

SS: We learned about the history and function of lighthouses.

Science: We explored about the relationship between force and proportion in the design of simple machines.

Other:  We added to our MA lighthouses brochures in Computers.

Best wishes for a beautiful weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Feeney
