Mercurial Month

March 24, 2017

Greetings from Room 116!

Well, this March is proving to be as mercurial as any. Hopefully it will still go out like a lamb! In the meantime, thank you so much for making sure that students are ready for anything the weather brings. On another note, we would like to extend a warm welcome to Jayden, who has joined our 116 family. The more the merrier!

Following are just a few of the many highlights of our very busy week:

ELA:  We proceeded with our historical fiction and memoir studies, highlighting important traits such as determination, courage, and compassion. We also focused on more r-controlled vowels in Spelling and on commas in Grammar.

Math:  We finished our exploration of fractions by taking a look at fractions on a number line including wholes greater than one and equivalent fractions.

Science/SS: We learned about how animals and plants adapt to survive and how some of these successful adaptations are inherited. We also wrote about the Pilgrims’ journey to the New World and their first year at Plimoth Plantation.

Other:  We enjoyed a preview of the Mattacheese Middle School performance of “The Lion King” and participated in a school-wide Drop Everything and Write event. We also worked on our biography project in Library and Computers.

Best wishes to all for a warm and wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,
Ms. Feeney
