Memorial Day

May 26, 2017

Greetings from Room 116!

This week I had the opportunity to read with several students individually as part of our end-of-year BAS assessment. Everyone has made wonderful gains since September! I will be reading with the rest of the class next week.

Other highlights from the week include:

ELA: We began our fantasy books in Reading and studied the “–ed” ending in Spelling.

Math: We created perimeter robots and tangram pictures.

Science/SS: We learned more about colonial life and had a wonderful hands-on field trip to the Josiah Dennis Manse.

Other: We added finishing touches to our extreme weather technology projects.

We ended the week with a special all-school Memorial Day Ceremony.

Best wishes to all for peaceful Memorial Day weekend.

Sincerely,

Ms. Feeney

Greetings from Room 116!

Congratulations to all of our students for completing the Grade 3 Mathematics MCAS!!  Everyone persevered and gave their best effort. Thank you families for your support in this endeavor.

Following are some of the many other highlights of our week:

ELA: We finished our historical fiction book groups, observing how good writers establish character, plot, mood, and theme. During Writer’s Workshop, we worked on various memoirs; while in Spelling, we reviewed the –ing suffix.

Math: We reviewed all mathematical concepts: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, measurement, fractions, and geometry. We also played an interactive, kinesthetic game of multiplication on the baseball field.

Science/SS: We recorded new observations regarding our long-term evaporation experiment. We also launched our study of life during the later colonial era.

Other: We finished our our Extreme Weather Story Board projects in Library/Technology.

Best wishes to all for a restful weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Feeney

P.S. Homework includes nightly reading and math fact practice.

Greetings from Room 116!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!! Here are some highlights from our busy week:

ELA: We continued to practice reading comprehension strategies within our historical fiction book groups, while examining how good writers establish character, plot, mood, and theme. Math: We explored the attributes of various geometric shapes, including angles, vertices, sides, and perimeter.

Science/SS: We learned more about the water cycle and conducted several experiments regarding evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. We also created cloud posters demonstrating four major cloud formations (stratus, cumulus, cumulonimbus, and cirrus).

Other: We worked on our Extreme Weather projects in Library/Technology and worked on math concepts with Zearn.

Best wishes to all for a lovely weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Feeney

P.S. Remember to read and practice facts always!
