Reading Matters

February 9, 2018

Greetings from Room 116!

This week, I was lucky enough to read one-on-one with students as part of our mid-year BAS reading assessments. I am happy to report that our class has made huge gains since September. Thank you all for helping to encourage nightly reading habits; this is essential to their continued progress.

Please find below other highlights from our week:

ELA: We worked on “sight words” in Spelling and possessive pronouns in Grammar. In addition, we wrote personal narratives about our own individual experiences of kindness. We also finished our second round of realistic fiction books.

Math: We learned that fractions can be used to represent more than a whole; for example, 5 halves is the same as 2 wholes and ½.

Science/SS: We launched a long-term research project regarding interdependence and ecosystems.

Other: We explored biographies of Olympic athletes during technology.

Thank you to everyone who has returned Spring Conferences forms. If you have not already done so, please find attached another form with remaining availabilities.

Best wishes to all for a lovely weekend!

Most Sincerely,

Ms. Feeney
