Whirlwind Indeed!

April 8, 2016

Greetings from Room 116!

This was a whirlwind week both literally and figuratively:

ELA: In Spelling, we worked on plurals. We also did some PARCC practice and worked on different writing projects.

Math: We learned about perimeter – the measurement around the outside edge (or “rim”) of a geometric shape.

Science/SS: We conducted a condensation experiment by creating a cloud in a jar. We also examined how wind, air pressure, and temperature influence weather. In connection with this, we discussed the impact of weather on the Pilgrims’ Mayflower journey and their first winter in the New World.

Other: In Computers, we continued our partner research for our Extreme Weather unit.

Best wishes to all for a warmer weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Feeney

P.S. Remember to read and practice math facts every night!

Happy Spring!

April 1, 2016

Greetings from Room 116!

Happy April to everyone!! Thankfully, March went out like a lamb. Hopefully, spring has truly sprung! In accordance with our changing seasons, we have launched many new units of study this week, as you can see:

ELA: In Spelling, we worked on contractions. We also did some PARCC practice and finished our historical fiction books.

Math: We began the next module on Geometry by reviewing vocabulary and classifying different polygons according to their attributes.

Science/SS: We worked on our animal stories and learned more about Pilgrim life. We also conducted several short- and long-term experiments to explore evaporation and condensation.

Other: In Computers, we started partner research for our Extreme Weather unit. During Enrichment, we discussed another tale from India that focused on the importance of inner strength and beauty. At our All-School Meeting, we learned that the Safe Body Poster designs of several classmates have been selected for display around our school.

Best wishes to all for a super spring weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Feeney
