March Madness!

March 27, 2015

Greetings from Room 116!
Yay – our first week of PARCC is done! I am so proud of everyone’s hard work. Next week we will have testing on Tuesday and Thursday, and that will be all for our first round. The second round will begin in early May.
Below a brief summary of the rest of our week:
Math: We reviewed story problems using all four operations, along with area, measurement, and fractions.
ELA: We continued our PARCC prep with a variety of nonfiction and fictional texts and read in our historical fiction book groups.
Science/SS: We began our science exploration of the water cycle, conducting several short and long-term experiments on condensation and evaporation. We also continued our study of the early Colonial period.
Other: We discussed stress during Calmer Choice and reviewed ways to calm ourselves down. We also learned above Mindful Movement, paying attention to our bodies on purpose.
Best wishes for a relaxing weekend!
Sincerely,

Ms. Feeney

Spring Forward!!

March 6, 2015

Greetings from Room 116!

Well, March has certainly come in like a lion. Thank you for continuing to ensure that students come to school with appropriate attire, including boots, hats, and gloves. We will go out for recess whenever humanly possible.

March promises to be a very busy month for us, and this week was no exception:

ELA: We studied more homophones in Spelling and started new historical fiction books in our guided reading groups. We also worked on multiple-choice responses, journal writing, and paired texts comparisons.

Math: We continued our investigation of fractions.

Science/SS: We gathered images for our biome reports and finished our close reading of Don’t Know Much About the Pilgrims.

Other: We enjoyed a special All-School Meeting to kick off Read Across America.

Please note that Mr. Depin will host an important PARCC Parent Information Session on Thursday, March 19th, at 6:30 pm. The first round of PARCC testing will take place on March 24, 25, 26, 31, and April 2.

I look forward to seeing everyone for Spring Conferences next week. Remember to set your clocks ahead this weekend. Spring is almost here!!

Sincerely,

Ms. Feeney
