Greetings from Room 116!

Spring has sprung, and so have the allergies. Thus, Kleenex donations are truly welcome.

Here’s a quick recap of our work this past week:

Math: We finished our unit on Data. After break, we will revisit Geometry and review other concepts for PARCC.

ELA: We studied the “-ed/-ing” endings in Spelling. We also examined author’s craft and created book jackets for our historical fiction books.

Science/SS: We concluded our exploration of the Water Cycle. We also picked Colonial trades to study and started construction on our replica Colonial village.

Other: We took our third SMI assessment during Computers.

Please remember that there is no school next week due to April vacation. Round 2 of PARCC testing will commence during the week of May 11th. Best wishes for a wonderful break with family and friends!

Sincerely,

Ms. Feeney

April Arrival!!

April 10, 2015

Greetings from Room 116!
It was great to have a normal week for a change. It allowed us to get a lot accomplished, as you can see:
Math: We started our unit on Data, learning how to create and interpret line plots, bar graphs, and pictographs.
ELA: We read our historical fiction books and wrote cloud cinquain poems. We also reviewed the “-ing” ending in Spelling.
Science/SS: We made additional observations for our long-term science experiments and watched several videos on the water cycle. We also continued to study the early Colonial period.
Other: We took our post-session survey in Calmer Choice and worked on our biography Power Point presentations in Computers.
Best wishes for a glorious spring weekend!
Sincerely,
Ms. Feeney

P.S. With allergy season soon upon us, we could definitely use some classroom donations of Kleenex. Thank you in advance for your help!!

Greetings from Room 116!
It is official – March went out like a lamb!! This week, we finished up our first round of PARCC testing, while also spending time on the following:
Math: We reviewed our year to date and finished our fraction unit. Next week we will begin our exploration of Data.
ELA: We continued reading our historical fiction books and spent time developing various writing techniques, such as elaboration and show-don’t-tell. We also learned about cinquains and did some shared poetry writing.
Science/SS: We made scientific observations for our long-term evaporation experiment and set up our own mini water cycle in a bag. We also extended our knowledge of the early Colonial period, creating colonial personas for ourselves.
Other: We had our final Calmer Choice sessions this week, discussing how to manage anger and other prickly emotions.
Best wishes for a blessed Easter weekend!
Sincerely,
Ms. Feeney
